KOLKATA: A very pertinent question has absorbed the Trinamool Congress, with the whereabouts of TMC leader and former Railways minister Mukul Roy causing much speculation.
The family members of senior TMC leader Roy claimed that he is "untraceable" since late Monday evening.
The former railway minister's son Subhragshu Roy told news agencies that his father was "untraceable" and "missing" since late Monday evening.
"Till now I am unable to contact my father. He is untraceable," Subhragshu, also a TMC leader, said to media persons.
According to Mr Roy's close aides, he was scheduled to fly to Delhi Monday evening but went missing and the party members were desperately seeking for his whereabouts.
"As of now we know that he was scheduled to land at Delhi Airport at around 9 PM. But he is not traceable," a close aide said.
It is not ascertained whether Roy embarked on the flight to Delhi or not. The words being bandied about are ‘untraceable’ and ‘missing.’ It remains a mystery as to how he could have disappeared when he was supposed to reach the capital at night.
In a video, Roy can allegedly be seen at the Delhi airport with an escort. When asked why he was at the airport, he told a reporter, “I have work in Delhi, so can’t I come here?”
Mukul Roy is a former number two in the TMC party's hierarchy. He had left TMC and joined the BJP in 2017 following differences with the party leadership. He was made BJP national vice-president.
However, Mr Roy returned to the fold of the TMC after he won the 2021 assembly polls on a BJP ticket and many opined that he was only waiting for the results to be announced.
